Cross Cutting
Cut single profile Formica® panels with the saw cut starting from and cutting into the profiled edge.
With panels profiled on both edges, good cross-cutting can be obtained only by using tungsten carbide-tipped cross-cutting saw blades with teeth as closely spaced as possible. The saw blade should be as thin as possible (under 3.2mm) with every other tooth conically shaped.
Reduce the traversing cross cut speed. Better cuts are made when the panels are clamped stationary on the saw bed and the saw travels either over the panel (eg: radial arm saw) or under the panel (eg: beam saw).
To prevent break-out on double profiled components requiring perfectly clean cuts on both faces (for example, doors), use beam type saws with a contra-rotating scoring saw to nick the trailing profiled edge before the main cutting saw.
Cross Panel Milling
To obtain good quality edge cuts on panels profiled on both sides, use oscillating cutter heads working first against and then with the feed direction.
